\"Owena<\/p>

James M. Johnston was born August 24, 1846. He married Sarah Leigh Laney. They had two children born in Georgia, Fletcher Harmon and Alice. James Johnston served in the confederate forces from\u00a0Georgia\u00a0in the Civil War. He and his family then came toTexas\u00a0in 1873 during the reconstruction period. They settled on a farm northeast of Grapeland. They had five children after coming to\u00a0Texas. They were James Owen (b. 1874, m. Zona Ellen Richey), Cora (m. Jim Langham), Tally (m. George Calhoun), Ernest (m. Josie Cutler), and Laney (m. Rosa Bishop). Zona Ellen Richey, who married James Owen Johnston, was the daughter of James Richey. James Richey came to\u00a0Houston\u00a0County\u00a0from\u00a0Mississippi\u00a0as a Baptist minister. Rev. Richey had served in the Confederate Army as a chaplain. He settled near Ratcliff and served several small churches in that area. From there he moved to Grapeland to preach. He and his wife Nancy had six children. They were Helen, Maggie, Wiley Bob, Dora and Zona Ellen. James Owen Johnston married Zona Ellen Richey in 1899. They owned a farm northeast of Grapeland. They raised cotton, corn,\u00a0& Dora Johnston Bangpeas, and cattle. Both of them were members of the First Christian Church of Grapeland. Their children were Owena (b. January 27, 1901, m. N.M. Long), and Dora (m. Winfree Starling-child-Morris Viston Starling), Dora married a second time to A.W. Bang. Owena and N.M. Long married in January, 1920. They had one child Dora Maurice. N.M. Long was a farmer and rancher. He worked through the A.S.C. and helped pioneer soil conservation in this area. He also served on the school board and was an elder of the First Christian Church. His wife, Owena was active in many church and civic organizations. Dora Maurice Long married Ralph Howell Walton who was postmaster of Grape14, nd; he retired in 1985. Maurice and Ralph are both active workers in the\u00a0BaptistChurch. Maurice is also a member of the Grapeland Garden Club. Their children are Zoe, Ralph H., Jr., Maurice Gilbert and Paul. Zoe Walton married Fred A. Williams D.V.M. They have two children, Zoe Ellen and Fred Allen, Jr. They live in\u00a0Dallas\u00a0at the present time. Ralph\u00a0H.\u00a0Walton Jr. is married to Patsy Kitcher. (See Ralph Walton Family)<\/p>
