This store was located in block 21 on the east side of town. It was one of four buildings built by J.J. Brooks between 1905 and 1910. Pictured in store: Miss Willie Logan (J.J. Brooks’ first wife), J.J. Brooks and Edgar Brooks.

J.J. Brooks owned and operated the above store in Grapeland. He was first in the general merchandise business on the west side of town and then between the years 1905 and 1910 built four brick buildings on the east side and moved his general merchandise business there. Mr. Brooks was an early day merchant who had many diverse interests. As well as a general merchandise store he also operated a cotton gin located near the Methodist Church and also a brick factory east of Grapeland.
