Marvin Eddie Ham was born in Arkansas in 1900 and moved to Texas with his family as a youngster. Cora Anna Bowles was born in Savoy, Texas in 1904. They were married in 1922 in Lubbock where Marvin was a part-time farmer and part-time brick-layer, helping to build Texas Tech University. In 1925, they left the parched lands of West Texas for the new oil field of South Texas and a job with Magnolia Oil Company. Between 1925 and 1937, they moved over much of Texas as each new field was “brought in”. By early 1938 Humble Oil and Refining Company was drilling west of Grapeland, the Hams were here with the Federal Tank Company. Here they remained for much of the remainder of their lives. Many men can remember as young teenagers being given their first job by “Ham”. He always had a soft spot in his heart for the young boys trying to make a little money during the depression and war years. Marvin and Cora were active members of the First Baptist Church, Grapeland and its people held a special place in their hearts. Marvin died in 1956 and Cora died in 1975. They had three children: Helen (Mrs. Vinson Streetman) of Grapeland, Eddie Joe of Dallas, Bobbie Lea, or Pokey, (Mrs. Herman Meyer) of Katy. Helen and Vinson had one son, Randy, of San Antonio. Randy and Adriana have one son, Vins Streetman. Eddie Joe and Barbara have two sons, David and Tim of Dallas, David and Robin have two children, Kristin Ham and Derrick Ham. Pokey and Herman have one daughter, Trish (Mrs. Charlie Bradley)of Katy.
