John W. Martin Family History
John W. Martin (October 22, 1802-June 25, 1895) married Sarah Dee (November 20, 1812-February 21, 1884). They were living inAlabama when their first child, Henry Franklin, was born on June 9, 1836. The family was in Mississippi in 1852 and by 1860 was living in Cherokee County. John W. and Sarah Martin had eight children: Henry Franklin, born June 9, 1836, married to Savannah Jane Weis- Inger; Lucy Jane Martin, born September 8, 1842; Elizabeth, born August 16, 1843; Sarah M., born April 8, 1845; Mary Emma Martin, born June 11, 1848, married (1) Sam Eston, (2) Bennett, (3) Harwich Schuder; John W. Martin born June 27, 1850; Benjamin F., born June 14, 1854. The records show that two of the above children, Henry Franklin (grandfather of Edna M. Sims) and Mary Emma Martin had families southeast of Grapeland and in the Antrim community. It has been said that other children who lived in the area visited back and forth with relatives in Cherokee County. John Martin lived to be 92 years of age and Sarah was 82 when she died.
