Warner Family Family History
Whittenhall Warner was born in Dublin, Ireland and came to this country with his family. They settled in the Orangeburg district of South Carolina. Whittenhall Warner married Elizabeth Cargill and had a large family. Whittenhall’s son, Thomas Cargill Warner, married Tabita Cargill and moved to Bogalusia on the Pearl River in Louisiana, Parish of Washington, before 1812. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in General Andrew Jackson’s forces and fought the British at Calumet Farm near New Orleans. Thomas Cargill Warner’s son, Thomas Coalter Warner, was a Methodist minster. He developed cancer and moved with his wife and small children to Jefferson, Texas to be under the care of a doctor reputed to be able to cure cancer. One of his oldest sons, Jeremiah Thomas Warner married Mary C. Glass and moved to Burk, Texas and then on to Trinity County in the area near Nogalus Prairie and Apple Springs. In about 1885, Jeremiah and his family moved to Grapeland. The older daughters who were married to Burl Eaves and Harem Frazier also moved to the Grapeland area at this time. In 1894, Jeremiah’s son, William Thomas Warner, married Orrie Herod, the daughter of James Thomas and Melissa Ann Herod. William (Willie) and Orrie had three children: Elma, who married Earl Pennington; Luther Edwin who married Mary Eliza Stuckey and Luna Bell who married Hill Huff. James Thomas Herod’s father, Daniel McCarty Herod (his wife’s maiden name was White) moved to Grapeland in 1849 from Mississippi. Melissa Ann Herod’s father, Joseph Randolph Yarbrough, came to Texas in 1834 with his father John Swanson Yarborough and under the leadership of Captain H. Arnold fought in the battle of San Jacinto in 1836. Soon after the battle, J.R. Yarborough married Phoebe Clementine Crawford and had eleven children, one being Melissa Ann. Luther E. Warner married Mary Eliza Stuckey in 1923 and had Eva Bode, Charles Wendell, Mary Helen, William (Bill) Thomas and Sheltie. The descendents of the children of Luther E. Warner are as follows: 1. Eva Bode Warner married Jack Webb in October, 1966. 2. Charles Wendell Warner married Kathryn Powell in March, 1949 and had five children: Clifton Edwin Warner (b, Feb. 5, 1950) married Deborah Gail (b. June 9, 1953) on May 29, 1971. Their children are Christi Lee (Dec. 5, 1973), Clifton Chase (b. Nov. 29, 1978), and Wendell Thomas (b. Sept. 20, 1981). Sara Annette Warner (b. Feb. 16, 1951) married Johnny Terrell (Jan. 12, 1944) on Nov. 9. 1983. They have three children: Hiriam Paul Weisinger (b. June 23, 1978), Micah Aaron Weisinger (b. March 15, 1980), and Courtney Mathews (b. Jan. 21, 1980). Melissa Kay Warner (b. Oct. 24, 1953) married James Allen (Bo) Vickers (b. Nov. 29, 1953) on May 15, 1974. Their children are: James Casey (b. April 10, 1976), Charles Clete (b. Oct. 28, 1977), and Cannon Smith (b. Oct. 7, 1981). Marsha Sue Warner (b. Feb. 14, 1956) married Phillip Wayne Buford (b. Oct. 25, 1951) on April 19, 1977. They have three children: Joseph Seth (b. Jan. 30, 1975), Jacob Wayne (b. June 22, 1979), and Jonathon Phillip (b. March 29, 1982). Charlene Warner (b. Dec. 11, 1957) married Robert Martin (B. Jan. 4, 1951) in August, 1965. 3. Mary Helen Warner married Jack Schrankel and had two children, Peter Jack Schrankel and Elise Ann Schrankel. 4. William (Bill) Thomas Warner married Marjorie Nelson in June, 1958 and had three children: Martha Leigh, Carl Coulter and Mary Clarisse. 5. Shellie Warner married William Wallace in August, 1966 and had two children: James Coulter Wallace (b. Aug., 1972) a Lisa Shea Wallace (b. Nov. 1975).
